The International Centre for Justice and Human Rights (ICJHR) has learned that detained human rights activist Ahmed Mansoor started a hunger strike at Al-Sadr prison after being subjected to torture and ill-treatment in solitary confinement. He was reportedly tortured and beaten up, which left visible marks of torture on his face and body.

Since his arrest in March 2017, Mansoor has been kept in solitary confinement in appalling detention conditions to this day. Detained arbitrarily for his human rights activism, he continues to be targeted and harassed in prison.

Ahmed Mansoor has already lost a lot of weight since his arrest and physical health has considerably deteriorated as a result of his detention conditions. He now faces serious health risks while on hunger strike.

In view of the above, the International Centre for Justice and Human Rights calls upon the UAE authorities to immediately release Ahmed Mansoor and holds them fully responsible of any health deterioration.

The ICJHR also urges Emirati officials and Al-Sadr prison administration to immediately end all acts of torture and ill-treatment against Ahmed Mansoor and provide him with the necessary health care without delay.
